So, just pre-ordered my copy of the arctic monkey’s DVD.
Yes, I am just THAT excited that I felt the need to pre-order this instead of going out to buy it.
It’s totally snowing outside, but it doesn’t seem to be sticking. Thank goodness. Last thing I want to do when I wake up in the morning is shovel some snow.
I am currently watching Withnail and I for the hundredth time. Really, the film is genius. So many good quotes. Plus George Harrison was an executive producer of the film.
some of my favorite scenes
“We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!”
“then the fucker will rue the day”
watch the first 3 minutes of this.
“I don’t advise a haircut, man. All hairdressers are in the employment of the government. Hair are your aerials. They pick up signals from the cosmos and transmit them directly into the brain. This is the reason bald-headed men are uptight.”
We all (Dani, Hayley and I) kind of really love Metronomy. This summer was pretty much like “oh let’s all listen to metronomy over and over and over again”
Reposting the video for “Heartbreaker” because it’s super catchy and cute.
They should just come to America already and play Coachella next year. Yep, Goldenvoice, you hear that? Metronomy for Coachella 09.
Metronomy’s new single is going to be “A Thing For Me”, I am pretty excited. It’s one of my favorite songs off of Night’s Out.
And the breakbot remix is the best.
You should go and listen to it on their myspace page right here.

“only time will tell if I’ll allow
the scenery around to eat me alive.
I want to sleep for weeks like a dog at her feet
even though I know it won’t work out in the long run.
so I burn down the wall, breathe my good shadow
those arms I once knew, hold me like gold.
I learn how to speak a forgotten language
I fall in the sea but forget how to swim.
when anything that’s anything becomes nothing that’s everything and nothing is the only thing you ever seem to have.”
So, this morning, I was awoken by my mother and sister fully dress and ready to shop at 4:30am. Now, I definitely do not dig on shopping on Black Friday. There is absolutely NOTHING I need that badly that would have me go out there in that madness and lose what is left of my sanity.
But for some reason, I had foolishly agreed to take them. I was really hoping that they would not wake up and forget but clearly this did not happen.
And my brother, he got to stay home and sleep! The lucky bastard. I had no one to keep me sane through this all.
First stop…FREAKING WAL-MART!
When I heard that this was first on their route, I pretty much cursed the heavens.
Driving to Wal-Mart, on a few hours of sleep and not having a cup of coffee yet was pretty painful.
Wal-Mart was freaking INSANE. I didn’t go in, I just dropped them off and was like “umm yeah, definitely not going in that zoo, call me when you are done because I am going to get coffee now…”
After that, they wanted to go to Target, Kohls, and Best Buy…
Pretty much same plan as wal-mart, drop them off, me go and get coffee, me reading in line holding their spot while drinking coffee, wondering why I am here and more coffee.
Once 8am hit, I was at Borders hanging out there until they were officially done with their shopping.
We finished all that nonsense around 10am.
The rest of the day was spent pulling Christmas decorations out from the sub-level of the basement. Again, my brother lucked out on this.
It’s suppose to snow sometime this weekend, which kind of blows. I am not prepared for snow yet. I am liking it near the 50s.

I hope everyone has a lovely Thanksgiving!
I’ve been up kneading dough forever and prepping my pie crusts and breads.
I have two loaves of braided french bread ready to be put in the oven when I get home.
Closed last night, now it’s time to go back and open the store. :/
My brother and I have a pact to wear really ridiculous sweaters today. My sister wants no part of this. She’s the sensible one of the us kids.
So, yeah, I watch a lot of french films…
I recently watched Playtime directed by Jacques Tati. The most apt description for this film, is “the masterpiece that wrecked his career.” At the time it was the most expensive film in Paris and ruined Tati financially.
It’s a simple, yet a profound film about human life in an increasingly alienating world.
Now, I should preface that you should view the to films that precede Playtime.
- M. Hulot’s Holiday (1953)
- Mon Oncle (1958)
Tati constructs the modern world as nearly monochromatic. Most of the architecture is glass and cold steel, but even the interiors are bland and gray. It’s a film in which, all remnants of the old have been wiped away in the pursuit of cleanliness, order, and convenience, an erasure of all that was wonderful about humanity.
Now, that I’ve said all that jazz, here are some cool film stills.

Chris Markers, La Jetée is a brilliant film.
I owe my viewing of this to Miss Hayley for posting about it a while back.
This french short is mainly comprised of still images, while a narrator fills in the viewer about on goings of the story.
The survivors of a destroyed Paris in the aftermath of World War III, live underground in thePalais de Chaillot galleries. They research time travel, hoping to send someone back to before the devastating war to recover food, medicine, or energy for the present, “to summon the past and future to the aid of the present”. The traveler is a male prisoner, his vague but obsessive childhood memory of witnessing a woman (Hélène Chatelain) during a violent incident on the main terminal (“The Jetty”) at Orly Airport is used as the key to his journey back in time. He is thrown back to the past again and again. He repeatedly meets and speaks to the woman who was present at the terminal. After his successful passages to the past, the experimenters attempt to send him into the deep future. In a brief meeting with the technologically advanced people of the future, he is given a power unit sufficient to regenerate his own destroyed society. On his return, he is cast aside by his imprisoners to die. Before he can be executed, he is contacted by the people of the future, who offer to help him escape to their time, but he asks to be returned to his childhood. He is returned and finds the violent incident he partially witnessed as a child was his own death as an adult.

The arrangement of this film is absolutely stunning and completely inspiring.
Alright, so I just finished watching Gummo.
I’ve been tiptoeing around this movie for about a month now and I don’t know, I didn’t exactly hate it. Gummo had some memorable scenes and imagery, but I’m not sure if this is something I would really watch over again. It’s definitely worth the first view though. I feel rather indifferent towards it and a bit mind freaked. I can definitely see where this film may have been shocking, but now, I think that we all so desensitize to this behavior and you see things like this more often than not.
this scene is kind of twisted, but kind of funny.
I find myself wanting to wear and/or buy dresses all the time. I was reading this article in the NYT the other day about how people are wanting to dress up a bit more, it makes sense.
“Everyone’s so glum right now that it’s really time to bring out the glad rags”
read the article here.
Looking on A.P.C., I fell in love with these three looks.
3am, Dani and I, again…

I am pretty much the most boring person.
On this Friday night, I am:
1. not seeing that movie Twilight
2. at home watching movies
3. knitting
Tonight has pretty much consisted of me trying to figure out what to cook for dinner this evening. Then, when I realised there was absolutely nothing in the house to cook with I made a journey to Whole Foods. Now, is it just me or do you always come out with more than what you originally came in for at Whole Foods? Did I really need to buy that green tea ice cream? Probably not, but I did.
Also, on the way home I made a pit stop to Best Buy. Which resulted in me buying quite a few movies, but most of them were on sale, so it makes it alright…
Purchases:
+Bonnie & Clyde
+Casablanca
+Alfie (the one with Michael Caine)
+JFK (the THREE disc special edition, I just had to, okay?)
Love Actually* on Bravo right now is making my evening, as well as chatting with Dani on iChat. Our conversations are classic. I should post random bits more often.
Just in case, purple = dani, blue = me.
*Look, I am getting all crazy with footnotes…Okay, so l may or may not have an unhealthy viewing habit with this movie around this time of year, but seriously, Colin Firth! Yes, please. Why does he always play the most perfect man? Pride & Prejudice, Bridget Jone’s Diary, etc… I’ve been watching FAR too many romantic movies lately. I should put in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels or something to balance this out a bit. Or maybe even start the second season of Mad Men…
